International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA)
Membership Classifications

The IDFA was founded in 1990 to address the common issues and concerns of all segments of the dairy industry. Membership is based on a company membership, encompassing wholly owned subsidiaries and joint ventures. Below are the categories of membership, with an explanation of each category to follow.

Dairy Processor Member

Any person, partnership, corporation or other legal entity (except for a trade association) engaged in the dairy processing and manufacturing industries in the United States, Canada or Mexico is eligible for IDFA Dairy Processor voting membership in the Association. This membership category shall include those engaged in processing, manufacturing, distributing, marketing or licensing of milk products, ice cream, cheese products, yogurt and cultured products, butter, dairy-derived ingredients or other dairy products in the United States, Canada or Mexico. An IDFA Dairy Processor member may participate in one or more of the Industry Segment Boards, consistent with its product business.

International Member

Any person, partnership, corporation or other legal entity (except for a trade association) engaged in the dairy processing and manufacturing industries outside of the United States, Canada, or Mexico is eligible for IDFA International non-voting membership in the Association. This membership category shall include those engaged in processing, manufacturing, distributing, marketing, or licensing of milk products, ice cream, cheese products, yogurt and cultured products, butter, dairy-derived ingredients or other dairy products outside of the United States, Canada, or Mexico.

Dairy User Member

Any person, partnership, corporation or other legal entity (except for a trade association) in the business of procuring, using or selling processed or manufactured dairy products is eligible for IDFA Dairy User non-voting membership in the Association.

Gold Business Partner Member

Any person, partnership, corporation or other legal entity (except for a trade association) in the business of supplying goods or services to the dairy processing or manufacturing industries is eligible for IDFA Gold Business Partner membership. This membership category shall include brokers of milk products, ice cream, cheese products, yogurt and cultured products, butter, dairy-derived ingredients or other dairy products and services.This category of membership shall have a higher rate of dues than regular IDFA Business Partners (described below) and an enhanced level of membership rights and privileges, including membership voting and eligibility to serve on the Executive Council. An IDFA Gold Business Partner member may also participate in one or more of the industry segment Boards, consistent with its product business or services.

Business Partner Member

Any person, partnership, corporation or other legal entity (except for a trade association) in the business of supplying goods or services to the dairy processing or manufacturing industries is eligible for IDFA Business Partner membership, non-voting membership in the Association. 

Affiliated Association Member

Any trade association, or comparable organization, representing processors, manufacturers, distributors, marketers, or licensors of milk products, ice cream, cheese products, yogurt and cultured products, butter, dairy-derived ingredients or other dairy products is eligible for IDFA Affiliated Association, non-voting membership in the Association.
